Bio
Andy has a BSc Economics degree from The University of Manchester and is a qualified CIMA Management Accountant with experience in the retail, FMCG and property sectors from working at Tesco, Unilever and CBRE. In 2014 he cycled 5,000 miles across Brazil – http://smudgersambacycle.org/– to raise money and awareness for two ‘sport for good’ charities, before attending the football World Cup. Prior to joining On Purpose, Andy spent 6 months with an organic beverages start-up called Little Miracles where he managed their annual business planning process before switching focus to optimising their supply chain operations. His two placements were with HCT Group and GravityLight.
Placement 1: HCT Group
- Co-author of HCT Group’s 2014/15 Social Impact Report:
- Contributed research, analysis, commentary and wrote the environmental impact chapter
- Evolved the business development strategy to include pre-tender opportunities:
- Implemented a new CRM system and initiated discussions with various local authority decision makers
“Andy worked with me at HCT Group as an On Purpose Associate. He was a pleasure to work with. He was very quick to learn the details of a new industry with complex legislation, and was proactive in identifying new projects and achieving results from them. He was happy to apply his considerable skills as well as being open to learn new ones. All in all, a great addition to the team.”
– Julia Meek, Head of Business Development, HCT Group
Placement 2: GravityLight
- Shaped the commercial strategy for GravityLight’s launch:
- Built a financial model for 2016-17 including scenario analysis for decision optimisation
- Business development for both the relief and retail markets:
- Strengthened existing and instigated new relationships – secured product trials and initial orders
A little more about me…
The best moment of On Purpose so far: today and every day (I’m writing this on the evening of 4th Jan – the first day back at work after the festive break) because the On Purpose year just keeps on getting better and better! [Wow, that’s cheesy, if Dom doesn’t well up over that one…]
What social enterprise means to me: It’s the purpose I’ve been looking for, at the intersection of my profession, passion, mission and vocation (see the venn diagram here).
My favourite training session: a simple one where Kate encouraged each of us to ‘find your cause’.
